who i am

I am a freelance writer based in Los Angeles. Cutting my teeth in the Chicago storefront theater scene, I've combined my immense love for the performing arts with my urgent desire to tell vital stories and empathetically communicate idealistic bandaids for our art-hungry souls.

what i've written

Don't Omit the Accent Marks. Latinidad in Félix González Torres’s Art

Drawing from primarily western schools of critical thought in the conceptualization of his installation art aesthetic, González Torres was interested in bringing the private to the public in a way that surreptitiously infiltrated spaces. Regarding himself as a spy of sorts, González Torres used nonliteral representations of himself and his life in order to expose his public audience to his private life. The nonspecificity of his minimalist symbology coupled with his interest in audience participation allowed for a universality that somehow complimented rather than contrasted against the autobiographical themes and details relevant to his pieces. This paper arises out of a personal concern for the potential erasure of a widely known and well regarded artist’s cultural identity.

when i'm around

Since returning home to Los Angeles in 2021, my work has been centered on championing and providing platforms for others’ arts. I’ve predominantly done so through my work as Marketing Manager at East West Players, one of the nation’s oldest theaters of color. I also organized and hosted a writers’ rooms for queer and trans playwrights of color that culminated in a play festival featuring seven fully casted new, in-development plays.

In June of 2019, my first full length play prefer not to answer, or other completed a pair of staged readings. The first was hosted by The Syndicate's First Read 2019, a play reading series for trans and non-binary theater artists. The second was hosted by The New Colony, a Chicago theater company that focuses on fostering new works.
